Melbourne Polytechnic, Advanced Manufacturing Centre of Excellence
In supporting Australia’s Advanced Manufacturing industries, Melbourne Polytechnic’s Advanced Manufacturing Centre of Excellence synthesizes globally leading HAAS manufacturing technology with world-leading local training.
Heidelberg, Victoria, Australia
Following a feasibility study in late 2021, Melbourne Polytechnic engaged PMA in March 2022 as the principal consultant for the AMCOE project. The brief included designing a large workshop for seven new HAAS digital manufacturing machines and a CAD/CAM laboratory.
The project's scope covered the strategic relocation of existing workshop equipment to an adjacent space and the design of new built-in joinery and workbenches, ensuring a fully functional and integrated learning environment.
With a non-negotiable practical completion date of June 30, PMA implemented an alternative procurement and design strategy to ensure timely delivery. Working collaboratively with Melbourne Polytechnic and external project managers DCB Projects, a builder was appointed in late April 2022 under a Construction Management system.
This approach allowed individual trade packages to be released early, enabling work to commence as swiftly as possible. This efficient method facilitated the successful completion of the AMCOE project in just 15 weeks from inception to practical completion.
