Monash University Health Services Expansion, Clayton Campus
A heavily planted ‘drop in’ zone comfortably and safely accommodates students awaiting consultations.
Clayton, Victoria, Australia
Paul Morgan Architects were engaged by Monash University to undertake an expansion of University Health Services for the Clayton Campus. The expansion called for the reconfiguration of the existing planning along with the inclusion of new consultation rooms and accommodation for external allied health providers.
The main portion of the reconfigured floor plan is occupied by a dynamic ‘drop in’ zone, designed to comfortably and safely accommodate waiting students. The remaining portions of the plan are divided into private consultation rooms and student facilities.
A central and open drop-in space, fitted with built-in and loose seating drives the layout. Indoor planting provides a calming environment and visual connection with the landscape. Private conversation pods are positioned in the open space. A reception desk to welcome students sits within the drop-in space. A kitchenette accessible to students complements the drop-in space, as does a new myotherapy room.
